Compacted soil strata without the formwork
Real rammed earth is a structural technique: layers of damp subsoil compacted inside formwork, one lift at a time. It is beautiful and it is slow, and it commits the wall to being an earth wall. Very few Indian projects can carry that programme risk on a façade.
This collection reproduces the strata — the soft tonal drift from one compacted lift to the next — as a finish that goes onto any sound substrate. RE(P)-1 and RE(P)-6 give the red-brown of laterite soils common through Karnataka. RE(P)-3 is a warm ochre. RE(P)-4 is a pale desert sand for interiors that need to stay quiet.
RE(P)-2 and RE(P)-5 break the earth palette deliberately: a charcoal and a silver-grey strata that read as compacted ash. They pair well with the warmer shades on a single elevation, and they are the two most often specified for boundary walls and entrance lobbies where the wall needs weight rather than warmth.
