Slate — Mono Tone flexible clay cladding

Split slate has one of the best surfaces in architecture — the cleft face, where the stone has been riven along its natural bedding plane — and one of the worst colour behaviours, because natural slate varies from batch to batch and streaks as it weathers.

The Mono Tone collection takes the riven texture and holds it in a single flat colour. MT-01 is a warm stone grey, MT-02 a cool blue-grey, MT-05 a deep charcoal-navy — the three that behave most like natural slate. MT-03 is a sand yellow and MT-04 a dusty rose, which take the same cleft face somewhere natural slate has never been.

Because the colour is uniform, the texture reads purely as relief. On a wall lit from one side the cleft face throws a genuine three-dimensional shadow, and there is no veining or tonal drift competing with it.
